KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 (Bernama) — A 40-year-old auto spare parts business premises in Jalan Klang Lama, which is just 18 feet away from a petrol station, was saved in a fire incident today.
In the 9.30 am incident, a 480-sq feet store area on the first floor of the three-storey building, which stored steel items such as alternators, disc rotors and drive shafts, was fully burnt.
The business’ second generation owner Choi Chin Wah said he was not sure of the exact cause of the incident, as most items in the store were made of steel.
“At the time of the incident, the store was already in operation, my employees and I were all at the front portion of the shop, luckily one of the workers spotted the smoke coming from the store and called the fire department straight away,” he said when met at the scene here, today.
The business premises is located at a three-storey building lot, where all of the floors in the rear portion of the premises have been turned into a storage area, which include items such as engine oil.
In the meantime, Fire and Rescue operations commander Jalailudin Abdul Mubin said his team arrived eight minutes after the call was made and managed to extinguish the fire 20 minutes later.
“When we arrived, the fire had already started spreading, and we had to break the back door of the premises, as we could not access it from the front of the shop due to the presence of thick smoke,” he said.
However, he said the fire only involved the first floor storage area, which was stocked with non-flammable items.
No lives were lost in the incident.
