BESUT, Feb 3 (bernama) — Ten people from two families were left with the clothes on their back after a fire destroyed four shops situated along a row of wooden buildings in Pasir Akar here at 6 am today.
Jerteh Fire and Rescue Department chief Mustaffa Ismail said the fire, which was believed to have been caused by a short circuit, destroyed the four shops which were used as accommodations and stores.
“No one was hurt. The fire was put under control at 7 am. Investigations on its cause and losses are being done by our headquarters in Kuala Terengganu,” he told Bernama here.
A victim, Shamsuddin Abdullah, 50, said smoke and fire were spotted billowing from his store by local residents, and it was destroyed in the fire as it was 80 per cent made of wood.
“I lost everything in the store, which I used for my daily work, worth RM160,000 including eight canopies, chairs and tables,” he said.
