Fire breaks out in Hanuwantia cottages ahead of Shivraj’s cabinet meet

A day before the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet is expected to hold a meeting on a cruise boat at newly-developed Hanuwantia water resort in Khandwa district, two cottages made of tent material, where the ministers were expected to rest, caught fire on Monday.
The fire broke out in the evening in the exotic cottages constructed next to the backwaters of Indira Sagar dam on Narmada river.
“Electric spark seems to be the cause of fire that gutted two cottages. The fire brigade got control over the flames and prevented it from spreading,” Khandwa superintendent of police M S Sikarwar told TOI. The fire incident does not have any impact cabinet meeting planned on Tuesday, he added.
Chouhan, in a bid to promote the recently developed water resort by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC), had planned the meeting of his cabinet at the exotic location.
The MPTDC is also planning to hold a 10-day Jal Mahotsav from February 12, offering visitors an array of activities including adventure sports.
The government also plans to replicate Hanuwantia water resort near around 100 other small islands in backwaters of Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar dams.
