Fire at Govindpura Industrial Area in Bhopal

A major fire engulfed the Govindpura industrial area on the outskirts of Bhopal here on Tuesday. The fire which could be seen from 5 km away gutted goods worth lakhs. No injuries have been reported. According to reports, fire broke out at warehouse of Anand paint factory at around 1 pm. Large amounts of chemically explosive stock were stored in the industrial shed. Goods worth lakhs were gutted in the fire which spread to adjoining sheds. A large section of the C-sector Govindpura was evacuated immediately. The fire also affected a car service station where damage has been reported.
BMC fire in charge Sajid Khan said, “The warehouse did not have workers. It began in the afternoon. Initially two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, it took around two dozen fire tenders extinguish the fire.” No reason has been affirmed for the incident. Paint thinner, a solvent, was stored in the warehouse, he added. Govindpura Industrail association secretary Pankaj Bindra said, “According to reports the fire department was not well-equipped to dose the chemically charged fire. The newly established fire brigade in the area has to be equipped to deal with chemical and other hazardous fires.”
