Fire guts plastic plant destroying assets worth lakhs

A fire broke out at Ekta industry at F-sector of Sanwer here on Tuesday afternoon destroying assets worth lakhs.
The fire was triggered at 12:30pm in the plastic plant over 500 m inside from the main road.
Initially three fire tenders were rushed to the site. After battling with fire for more than 30 minutes, additional fire tenders were called in.
“We have not been able to control the fire from the past three hours. Over 8 fire tenders and 1,500 litres of foam has been used till now. The fire is continuing and has gutted most of the plant. The high flames could be seen from over a kilometre,” said S H Hooda, sub-inspector (SI), fire department.
“Every plant has a hydrant but when we tried to switch it on, it did not work as it had dried up,” Hooda said adding that the fire extinguishers at the plant were also not working.
The owner of the factory Babbu Sheikh was also present on the spot and claimed that the loss was estimated to be worth lakhs.
