Family escapes unhurt as fire razes home

A FAMILY of 10 including an elderly miraculously escaped unhurt after their wooden house in Kampong Menengah in the Temburong District was gutted in a fire on Wednesday.
The house was owned by Bakir bin Haji Gapar.
The Fire and Rescue Department are still investigating the cause of the mishap.
According Abdul Harith bin Samad, Assistant Superintendent of the department (Operation ‘G’), four fire engines from Bangar and Rataie fire stations were dispatched to the area after receiving the distress call.
Haji Abdul Rahman bin Merusin, Penghulu of Mukim Bangar, and personnel from the Temburong District Office and the Department of Electrical Services also assisted in the fire fighting operation.
The Community Development Department staff members presented basic daily necessities to the victims who are currently staying with their relatives in Kampong Menengah until further assistance is offered.
