Updated: 2016-02-16-09:08
A fire broke out in a mattress godown in Patel Nagar on Monday evening. Though there were no causality but goods worth lakh were gutted.
“The fire started at around 7 pm in house number J 132, where the mattresses are stored,” said A R Sharma, chief fire officer, adding, “Five fire tenders were pressed into service which took about two hours to bring the fire under control.”
He further said that initial investigations suggest that short circuit might have triggered the fire. The godown belongs to Rohit, who owns a mattress shop in Lohia Nagar. “The single storey building was illegally used to store mattresses and as the fire raged there was panic as it is a crowded neighborhood ” said a Chetan, a policeman who was present at the spot. “Had the fire not doused in time it would have spread in neighbouring building ” he added.
