Major fire at Ankleshwar GIDC unit

A major fire broke out in the plant of Holyland Corporation, which is located in Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate at Ankleshwar on Monday afternoon. There were no casualties in the fire incident.
Official sources from GIDC’s Disaster Prevention Management Committee (DPMC) said the fire broke out at around 2:15pm in the solvent distillation plant of the unit. The company manufactures solvent for industrial use and that the drums were being filled at the time of the incident.
Around 20 fire tenders from Ankleshwar and other parts of Bharuch reached the spot. More than 80 tankers of water and thousands of litres of coolant were used for dousing the fire by fire fighters. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The fire could have occurred during filling of the solvent due to an electric short circuit, sources said. Tnn
“The entire factory was reduced to ashes. It took more than five hours for us to control the fire. The factories located close to the affected unit were asked to shut,” DPMC manager Manoj Kotadia said.
Kotadia added, “Solvent is a highly inflammable substance and the factory owners should have taken due fire safety measures. The DPMC will investigate the exact cause of the fire.”
