Woman tourist injured in car fire

AN automobile fire broke out near mile post No. 27/6 on the Pathein-Yangon Road in Kyaunggon Township in Ayeyawady Region on 14 February, leaving a woman tourist injured.
The fire suddenly broke out at the head of a car that was driven by Ba Phan, 27, and carrying six foreign tourists from the Philippines, Indonesia, the US, Thailand and Sri Lanka near Yaytagyi Village.
A Thai woman sustained a minor injury to her ankle as she jumped from the car during the fire. She is now being treated at the township hospital near the scene.
A police investigation showed that the fire was caused by the overheating of the car battery.
The fire was extinguished by fire fighters in cooperation with residents of Yaytagyi Village with the use of two fire engines. The Kyaunggon Township Police Station has filed a lawsuit against the reckless driver.
