Five rescued after house catches fire
Updated: 2016-02-17-08:39
Five people were rescued after a fire broke out in a house in Madhuban Society near Sangam Crossroads early on Tuesday.
Goods worth lakhs were gutted in the fire that broke out due to a short circuit at around 2.30 am.
Fire brigade sources said the residents were stranded as they were trying to douse the fire on their own.
Those rescued were Vandana Maheshwari, Kanta Maheshwari, Ratan Maheshwari, Dipika Shah and Nishika Shah.
“The residents were trying to douse the fire by themselves. A bedroom in the house was damaged, making it difficult to find the exact cause of the fire. However the police will seek the help of Forensic Science Laboratory to ascertain the exact cause,” said fire officer Manish Mod.
Mod added that staying indoors to rescue household items can prove dangerous as most of the deaths during fire are caused by smoke inhalation.
“Instead of saving household objects, one should call the fire services,” he added.
