25-yr-old man sets house on fire in Lapu-Lapu City

A 25-year-old man reportedly suffering from a mental illness set their house on fire yesterday morning in Purok Mantalisay, Sitio Langub, Lapu-Lapu City.
The incident happened at around 3:15 a.m., said Fire Officer 1 Hadji Samonte, investigator from Lapu-Lapu City Fire District.
Neighbors who witnessed the incident told fire investigators they saw smoke coming from the bedroom of the house.
According to Samonte, the grandmother of the man was thankful that the fire did not spread to the houses nearby. Her two-story house was made of light materials.
“Nagpasalamat kay wala’y nadamay nga laing balay,” Samonte said.
Three fire trucks were deployed to put out the fire, according to Samonte. The fire was controlled within two minutes and damage was pegged at P150,000.
Samonte said based on their investigation, the man was bringing garbage to their house to make a “bonfire.”
Samonte said no complaints will be filed against the man because his relatives said the incident was unintentional.
“Walay kaso i-file kay nibalik mi ganina ug niingon sila nga wala daw tuyua,” Samonte said.
