Sharavathi fire: Production will resume soon

A day after a blaze crippl ed production at the Sharavathi hydropower station at Linganamakki, the main source of power supply to the state grid, a high-level team of officials led by energy minister DK Shiva Kumar reviewed the incident on Friday and said full-fledged production at the plant would resume in a month.
The team concluded that a short circuit caused the fire which completely damaged the control room and losses have been pegged at over Rs 100 crore. “The power situation in the state is likely to be affected for some time,” officials added. Repairing the damaged machinery will be a costly affair. Assembly speaker Kagodu Thimmappa too visited the power station and met senior officials.
According to officials, the incident happened just after the first shift ended in the evening .
