Updated: 2016-02-22 20:59

SINGAPORE – A fire broke out at a chemical company in Tuas South on Monday (Feb 22) night.

It raged on for more than an hour before being put out by fire fighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

The Straits Times understands that authorities were alerted to the fire at Aroma Chemical at around 7pm. It was put out at around 8.10pm.

Workers of the firm, who were waiting outside the plant when The Straits Times arrived, said they had been told to evacuate some time before 7pm.

They added that nobody was hurt. The workers were seen heading home at around 9pm.

Aroma Chemical runs a waste management facility for toxic and hazardous waste, according to its website. It also manufactures specialty chemicals and solvents.

Investigations are ongoing.
