Updated: 2016-02-26 12:00

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) — The forest around a limestone hill in Batu Caves caught fire this morning, involving an area of about 12 hectares.

Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said the fire was contained at around 3 pm.

“The area where the fire occurred is located about one kilometre from the Sri Subramaniyar temple in Batu Caves, believed to be due to the burning of trash by certain parties.

“The fire department received an emergency call about the fire at 10.42 am and arrived at the scene seven minutes later,” he said, here, today.

Twenty personnel and three fire engines from the Fire and Rescue stations in Selayang, Rawang and Gombak Selatan were involved in the fire-fighting operation.

“The preliminary investigation found the fire occurring on a sixty-metre high limestone hill. The fire was raging with thick smoke visible. However, there were no casualties involved,” Mohd Sani said.

The department was still monitoring the area as of this afternoon.
