Woman dies, 2 others hurt in Pasig fire

A 65-year-old woman died and two others were injured when a fire broke out at a residential area in Pasig City shortly after midnight yesterday.
Firemen found the body of Nerma Parcon in her room at 31-V Bernadro street in Barangay San Joaquin.
Parcon’s relative, Benjamin Omnes, said he left the victim in her room at the height of the fire as he was busy saving their belongings.
Reports said Parcon had been suffering from amnesia.
Lawrence Oliva, 38, and Valentino Pabor were injured in the fire. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Chief Inspector John Pinagod, deputy marshal of the Pasig fire department, said the blaze started in the barracks of the East and South Construction at 12:05 a.m.
The flames quickly spread to adjacent houses in the area.
The fire reached the third alarm before it was declared under control at 1:28 a.m.
Arson probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
Firefighters had a hard time entering the site because of the narrow streets.
Pinagod said 12 homes were destroyed in the fire. Families affected by the fire are temporarily taking shelter in the barangay hall.
In Sta. Ana, Manila, 15 houses were razed in a fire after a kerosene stove exploded yesterday afternoon.
The fire started on the second floor of the house owned by Bernardo Mangaong at the corner of Pilar and G. Tejeron streets, Manila fire chief Senior Superintendent Jaime Ramirez said.
Ramirez said around 30 families were left homeless.
Alberto Altogeros, 61, suffered burns.
Damage to property was placed at P200,000.
