A fire at a scrap dealer’s shop in the capital has left one dead.
Three others have been hospitalised with burn injuries after the incident in the early hours of Wednesday, said the fire service.
The shop, located at a slum near Dhaka’s New Market, caught fire around 1:30am.
It took two fire-fighting units about 20 minutes to put out the flames, said Fire Service Control Room’s official Atiqul Islam Chowdhury.
Rescuers rushed four people from the site to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared 24-year-old ‘Amzad’ dead.
DMCH police outpost’s Inspector Mozammel Haque said three others—identified as ‘Mehedi’, 20, ‘Sohag’, 25 and ‘Yameen’, 25— are being treated at the burns unit.
Two of them have suffered over 30 percent burns, he said.
All of the victims were employees at the scrap dealer’s shop.
