Fire breaks out in Waghodiya factory

A major fire broke out at an industrial unit in Waghodiya near the city. A fire fighter from the city fire and emergency services of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) was injured during the operation to douse the blaze.
The fire broke out due to a suspected short circuit around 4.30pm at a unit manufacturing aluminium foils for various applications, said Bhargav Vyas, Panigate fire station officer, who had gone to supervise the operation. Besides, a fire tender of the VMC, one from GAIL Ltd was also pressed into action to control the fire.
Vyas added that the fire spread quickly due to chemicals and plastics lying in the factory. It took around four hours to control the blaze.
A fire fighter who had climbed a ladder to check the situation inside the factory fell as the ladder slipped. He suffered injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in the city opposite the Polo Ground for treatment.
Vyas said the firefighter was able to walk, but the nature of his injuries would come to light only after examination by doctors.
