Fire breaks out at Deonar dumping

A fire broke out at 9.47 pm at Deonar Dumping Ground, Ghatkopar Mankhurd Link Rd, Near Baigan Wadi, Behind Bus Depot. Fire fighting was in progress said BMC disaster management officials.
Residents living around Deonar complained about having spotted a fire at the Deonar dumping ground at around 9 pm on Saturday night.
Residents said that they saw flames from their windows coming from the dumping ground and informed the fire brigade around 9 pm. Rajesh Valappil, one of the residents from Chembur, sent a picture to TOI about the flames coming out from the dumping ground. A fire brigade engine is already stationed at the dumping ground.
In the last week of January this year a fire broke out at Deonar dumping ground fire which continued to rage for several day affecting residents living in nearby areas.
The nearby municipal and private schools were forced to declare a holiday for their students after they complained of eye irritation. Civic officials had then said that the fire had spread over 25 hectares of the dumping ground and smoke from it could be seen all over Chembur.
