RU bus set on fire

Unidentified criminals set fire to a Rajshahi University students’ bus on the campus early Tuesday.
Witnesses said a university bus, which was parked at the bus stand on the campus, was badly damaged after unknown criminals set it on fire around 12:10am, reports our RU correspondent.
Saidur Rahman and Obaidur Rahman, night guards of the bus stand, said they suddenly saw the flame inside the bus and informed police deployed on the campus.
The fire gutted the entire bus before firefighters reached the spot.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Nurullah and Proctor Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Zakaria, who visited the spot around 12:15am, said they will form a probe body to investigate the incident.
Fire services sources said the criminals used gunpowder to set the bus afire.
Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of the university unit blamed the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student body of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, for the incident.
They also staged demonstration on the campus around 12:30pm demanding punishment to the ‘responsible Shibir men’.
BCL RU unit President Ahmed Ali and Organising Secretary Zahirul Haque Zakir said Shibir activists have must committed the heinous act as part of their conspiracy to paralyse the congenial atmosphere in the university.
Meanwhile, RU unit Islami Chhatra Shibir secretary Sayfuddin Yeahia told The Daily Star that Shibir never do such activities.
“The BCL men might have done such activities while Shibir is trying to have political co-existence on the campus,” he said.
Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station, said they would investigate the incident after receiving complaint from the university authorities.
No case or complaint was filed with the police station in this connection till filing this report around 12:30pm.
