House razed in fire in Tudela
Updated: 2016-02-28-00:00
A couple from Tudela town in Camotes Island, who may have forgotten to turn off the lights and appliances in their residence while they left for Cebu City, will have no house to go home to after it was razed in a fire Friday, almost 1 in the morning.
Tudela Fire Marshall, Senior Fire Officer 3 Joseph Jonatan Cabilso said the house, located in Barangay Southern Poblacion, Tudela town, was owned by Pio and Linda Lazaga.
Cabilso, in a telephone interview, said the alarm was received by the station at 12:55 a.m. but was controlled 20 minutes after.
Cabilso disclosed that a neighbor of the Lazaga’s, who was watching television in his house, heard sparks coming from the outside. When he checked, he saw his neighbor’s kitchen was already on fire. The neighbor immediately asked for help from the fire station.
When the firemen arrived, Cabilso said the house was already engulfed by fire since it was made of light materials and they had to control it so it would not spread to the neighboring houses.
The fire was contained after 20 minutes but it took them until 2 a.m. to declare a fire out.
Cabilso said when the fire happened, nobody was inside the house as the owners reportedly left for Cebu City.
Cabilso would not know if the electricity was intentionally left on or if the owners of the house forgot to switch it off.
He added that the probability of an electrical short circuit is high because of the fluctuating electrical supply in the area.
“Pirmi man lang gud brown-out diri usahay duha ka oras nya mobalik na sad, unya ining balika na kusog kaayo na ang kuryenti, basin nang-init nato’g maayo ang wire mao to’ng nasunog,” Cabilso said.
No persons were reported injured in the fire, which damage is estimated at P300,000.
