Buses set on fire in Savar ahead of Jamaat’s shutdown
Updated: 2016-03-09-12:14
Two buses were set on fire in Savar on Wednesday early morning ahead of countrywide shutdown called by the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Police said that the ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ buses were parked outside the transport company’s garage near the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at the Upazila’s Buliyapur.
The buses were completely gutted before the fire service could reach the spot.
Savar police OC Kamruzzaman toldbdnews24.com that no casualties were reported.
He said they suspect an internal feud between employees of the bus company led to the arson. “There is an ongoing feud over the murder of a Shyamoli Paribahan mechanic a few days ago.”
Meanwhile, the Jamaat-e-Islami has called for countrywide dawn-to-dusk shutdown across the country, protesting a Supreme Court verdict which upheld the death sentence for its senior leader Mir Quasem Ali for 1971 war crimes.
