Fire chars bike-hit PMPML bus near court

A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited bus charred completely near Kamgar Putala close to the district court on Tuesday evening after a motorcycle rammed it from the front, but all its passengers escaped unhurt.
The motorcycle hit the packed CNG bus around 5.45pm on the road going to the court from Dengle bridge. A couple riding the motorcycle suffered burn injuries.
Pradip Kale, a pav bhaji stall owner, was just a few feet away from the bus when it caught fire. “All the passengers immediately got down from the bus. But the bike riders suffered burn injuries,” he said.
Azhar Shaikh, who had come to drop a relative to the court, said, “The fibre material of the bus caught fire almost immediately after the motorcycle hit it.”
Fire officer Saibaba Jillewar said, “We received information around 6pm and immediately rushed to the site. Fire had engulfed a major portion of the bus. But all the passengers managed to get down from it.” S R Kusalkar, the in-charge of the PMPML accident department, said the exact reason for the bus catching fire was yet to be ascertained. “All that we know is a motorcycle had hit the bus and got stuck. The bus was going to Pune Station from PMC Bhavan.” Senior officials of PMPML were unaware that the bus had caught fire.
