CEBU, Philippines – Nearly P3 million worth of property went up in smoke in two separate fire incidents in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue yesterday morning.
In the first incident, at least P2.5 million worth of property were lost when a fire hit a footwear factory in Tabok, Mandaue City at 2:41 a.m.
The fire was declared under control 30 minutes later.
Mandaue City fire marshal Chief Inspector Ronaldo Orbita said the fire started at the engineering department of Cermatex Manufacturing Corporation owned by Joseph Yu.
Thick smoke coming out from the engineering department was first noticed by security guard Romy Solijon. The guard said he tried to extinguish it using fire extinguisher but it went out of control.
The factory already stopped operation when the fire broke out.
Fire investigators believe that an unplugged engine may have triggered the incident.
The fire department raised the alarm to task force alpha.
Fire trucks from the nearby Consolacion town, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City, Cebu Chinese Fire Volunteers, Air Force Fire Volunteer, and Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation Fire Volunteers responded to the alarm.
