Two fires break out in Myeik
Updated: 2016-03-11

TWO fires broke out on the same day in Myeik, Taninthayi Region, on Tuesday, according to the local Fire Services Department. No one was injured in the fires.

The fire was caused by an overheated electronic device at a warehouse owned by U Zaw Min Naing in Zaygaung Ward at around 6:25pm. The blaze spread quickly to fishing nets that were located near the overheated device. The flame was put under control by firefighters within 18 minutes.

Another fire broke out in Kyaukphyutaung Village in the Sandawut Village-tract at 7:28pm that day. According to the police investigation, it was caused by a candle placed in a Buddhist altar. Daw Mya Naing lit a candle in the presence of a Buddha image at her home.

The candle fell, igniting the bamboo wall of the home. Local firefighters controlled the blaze within seven minutes.

Both homeowners have been charged under the law.
