Fire burns 8 of a family in Brahmanbarhia
Updated: 2016-03-12-18:08
Eight members of a family, including three children, have been burnt in a fire that was perhaps caused by a leak in the pipeline of a cooking gas cylinder at their home in Brahmanbarhia’s Sarail Upazila.
The accident took place at the Upazila’s Kuttaparha on Friday night, said Brahmanbarhia Fire Service official Md Kabirul.
He identified the victims as Shiuly Begum, Abul Kalam, Ekhlas Mia, Jarina Begum, Ibrahim Mia, ‘Taslima’, 7, Abdur Rahman, 9, and ‘Yamin’, 6.
All of them but Kalam were admitted to Brahmanbarhia Sadar Hospital.
Kalam was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Quoting locals, Kabirul said Shiuly got burnt first in the fire when she tried to light up the stove in the kitchen to cook dinner.
Kabirul said it is suspected that the kitchen was already full of gas from the cylinder leak. When ignited, the flames spread quickly and engulfed the house, burning the other seven.
