Forest fire doused at Khutwanda in Tadoba
Updated: 2016-03-12-04:00
Incidents of fire have started taking place in forests under Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) even as summers have just about begun. A large scale fire was reported in the forest of Khutwanda, not far from Palasgaon village in the core area of TATR.
As it is quite early for natural fires, the possibility of intentional fire set by villagers for larger mahua collection is not ruled out.
FDCM officers who look after fire control in TATR ratified the fire. They claimed that fire was reported at around 5pm. The fire fighting unit doused the fire by 7.30pm. Large number of tourists taking safari were witness to raging fire. FDCM officers however maintained that they were uncertain about the magnitude of the spread of the fire and held that it would be ascertained by Saturday only.
Last year, many incidents of fire started by villagers were reported in TATR core and buffer areas for the collection of mahua flowers. Friday’s incident occurred when PCCF (wild life) Shree Bhagwan himself was visiting the tiger reserve.
