Fires gut property worth Rs 1.8 million

NEPALGUNJ: Property worth around Rs 12 million was reduced to ashes when a fire broke out at a cotton factory in Basantapur of Nepalgunj Municipality-7 on Saturday.

According to police Inspector Ram Bahadur Chand, the fire that broke out at the cotton factory owned by Pankaj Kumar Baishya at around 4 am today was contained with the help of Nepal Police and Nepal Army personnel backed by fire engines after five hours of battling.

The victims said that property worth Rs 1.15 million was reduced to ashes in the incident.

The reason behind the fire was electric short circuit.

The fire was taken under control with the help of police personnel and local residents backed by a fire brigade.

Meanwhile, a house was destroyed in a fire that broke out at Pulamichok in Tandi-8 in the district on Fridayevening.

Police said that the house belonging to Ash Kumar Rai caught fire destroying Rs 110,000 in cash and other valuables.

Police further said that cooking gas leakage had sparked the fire.
