Updated: 2016-03-14-20:42
A fire broke out in a slum area at 1.40 pm near Air Force station in Sector 5.
A 21-year-old woman got severe burns and has been referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi from Civil Hospital of Gurgaon. Three children and one man also got minor burns. They were rushed to Civil Hospital and discharged by evening.
According to sources, fire broke out in a scrap shop and spread across an area of half an acre. While four fire brigades left from Sector 29 fire station, 6 fire brigades were called from Bhim Nagar fire station and Air force Fire station. Over 40 fire workers came together to control the fire. It took more than 45 minutes to take control over the situation.
“More than 100 hutments were gutted. We got first call at 1.45 pm and immediately rushed to the spot. We also called fire brigades from Air Force Station. The area is critical as there is an Air Force Station adjacent to the spot,” said Sukhbir Yadav, Assistant Fire Officer at Bhim Nagar Fire station.
Exact cause of the fire is still not known. “As of now, we only know that fire started from a scrap shop. We are investigating the matter,” said a cop from Sector 5 police station.
