Three houses were razed by a fire yesterday afternoon at Sitio Bayabas, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
According to Senior Fire Officer 2 Christopher Orbiso, they received the alarm at 1:48 p.m. and were able to control the fire within five minutes, raising it only to first alarm. Damage was pegged at P60,000.
Orbiso said they will be investigating the cause of the fire, which was said to have originated from the house of a certain Marcelina Bacarisas.
Ponciano Patiño, a victim, said he was only able to save his TV set because when he arrived home, the fire was already big.
Jovanie Bacarisas, 35, and Jordan Bacarisas, 25, grandchildren of Marcelina, were invited by the Mambaling police to shed light on the incident as a child reportedly saw them starting a fire near their house.
Senior Police Officer 4 Joel Suelo said, “Gisukit-sukit pa sila sa atong imbestigador kay naa may nitumbok nga usa nila gadaob-daob sa ilang balay,”
However, both Jovanie and Jordan denied having to do anything with the incident.
Some of the residents informed The Freeman that one of the Bacarisas brothers is not in sound mental condition.
