Garment shop gutted in devastating fire
Updated: 2016-03-26-03:01

A devastating fire led to the loss of around Rs50 lakh at ready-made garments shop, Milan Collections, at Laxmi Bhuvan Square, on Thursday. Four fire tenders had to be pressed into action to bring the fire under control. Short circuit is primarily believed to the reason behind the fire.

The shop, along with others in the locality, was closed for Holi which helped to avoid any bigger disaster or casualty. The Jains, who owned the shop, claimed that short circuit at an adjacent electric police (no. B/22) triggered the fire at their outlet at 7pm. In the evening, the shop is generally thronged by many customers too. It’s learnt that electric pole (B/47), which has its DP box open, supply with feed to B/22. MSEDCL authorities later claimed that there was an overhead cable which negated any possibilities of fire due to short circuit in the pole which could have been conveyed through any wire.

The Jains were informed by a pan kiosk owner in the vicinity. The shop, which came into existence in 1990, were reduced to ashes within an hour before the flames were brought under control. While the Jains claimed to have suffered massive loss financially, fire brigade sources as of now restricted it to Rs5 lakh claiming that further valuation would be done to assess the exact amount.

While Jains squarely blamed on the short circuit in the electric pole as a trigger for the fire in their shop, the fire brigade sources feel that it could have happened internally with some splinters or sparks from any electrical connections.

Cops from Sitabuldi police station and other senior officials too had reached the spot.
