Fire destroys village in Arunachal’s Siang district

Hundred of villagers were rendered homeless when a massive fire broke out at Payum village in Siang district on the night of March 26.
A total of 45 houses were completely destroyed in the inferno. However, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The villagers are reported to be facing acute shortage of food items and other basic requirements as the village is located 18 km away from the nearest motorable road, which is Molo Camp. Superintendent of police Doge Jini said a team has been dispatched for inspection, but not much information has been received due to problems in connectivity.
Meanwhile, Siang DC N Lego has directed the ADC of Rumgong to provide immediate relief to the fire victims and asses the loss.
Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) vice-president Toni Pertin, while expressing shock and grief over the incident, appealed to the state government to immediately initiate relief measures for the affected families. He added that ABK will also reach out to the families soon.
