Parade fire: Shopkeepers demand compensation
Updated: 2016-03-28-09:54
A day after fire had gutted more than hundred shops at shoe market in Parade, many shopkeepers gathered in the market on Sunday to clean their shops to start afresh.
They are now looking towards the district administration for compensation.
Salim, a shopkeeper, who was cleaning the blackened remains of tirpals, said that he had lost everything in the inferno because his shop was the only means of livelihood for him and his family. “We should be given compensation by the administration as the shops were the only source of our livelihood”, said Salim further.
Like him, many other shopkeepers are also demanding compensation for the huge losses they have incurred. They suspect some conspiracy behind the blaze. “Our shops have completely gutted in the fire. The way the entire market got burnt shows it was not just a mishap”, said a shopkeeper.
Meanwhile, former Congress MP Shriprakash Jaiswal, who met the affected shopkeepers on Sunday, assured them of all possible help. They told the former Union minister that the fire mishap at Parade looked suspicious because such incidents had taken place several times in the past. They also requested him to ask the state government to give them compensation.
Jaiswal has also written to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav urging him to order an inquiry into the Parade fire mishap and provide compensation to the the affected shopkeepers.
