Major fire breaks out at plywood factory in Hapur
Updated: 2016-04-02-22:54

A major fire broke out at a plywood factory in Hapur during the early hours of Saturday. No casualties have been reported. A short circuit is believed to be the reason behind the fire, officials said. The incident happened at the factory located at Patna-Muradpur road and the wood stocked in the building led the fire to assume mammoth proportions.

Fire tenders were rushed to the site not just from Meerut but also the neighbouring districts of Bulandshahr, and Ghaziabad. It took half a dozen fire tenders around six hours to douse the fire. The delay in the arrival of fire tenders also caused vendors and traders to agitate and have a heated argument with the chief fire officer. The owner of the factory, Sanjay Garg, said, “We are yet to ascertain the loss but it could be close to Rs 3 crore at least.”

Chief fire officer Animesh Singh, said, “Short circuit seems to be the primary reason for this accident. We were able to extinguish the fire.”

As per sources, this is not the first time that this particular factory has caught fire. “This is the third time,” said a local resident, who did not wish to be named.
