Major fire at Chiripal Industries on Pirana Road

A fire which started at 4.50 pm on Thursday, continued till late night at Chiripal Industries Ltd on Pirana Road with as officers and personnel of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) estimating that the firefighting would continue till the early hours of Friday.
According to AFES officials, the company called them on Thursday afternoon saying a fire had started in the ginning department and quickly spread to other parts of the unit, gutting all the machinery, stock, electric wiring, oil reserve and badly damaging the building itself. Officials said that they are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
“We had to punch holes through the wall and break a part of ceiling to provide a vent for the flames and heat which had no other way out. The temperature had gotten so high that we first had to cool off nearby areas to prevent the fire spreading. The fire is still burning in several parts of the unit even as tankers continuously ferry water to the spot,” said an AFES official. Officials said that an acute shortage of AFES manpower at the lower and middle levels affected the operation severely.
