A fire broke out in Puwayan area of the district on Sunday morning gutting at least seven houses and leaving two persons injured. The injured were rushed to community health centre (CHC) and their condition is stated to be out of danger. Fire tenders rushed to the spot in Udana village and brought the blaze under control, police said, adding that the trigger behind the fire was not known yet. Locals estimated that goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh were gutted in the blaze. Station in-charge of Puwayan, Sunil Kumar Bishnoi, said that two persons — Gurdev and Kalwider—received burn injuries and were admitted to the CHC. Meanwhile, in another incident, about 12 acres of standing wheat crop was reduced to ashes allegedly due to short circuit in a high-tension wire passing above the fields in Rasulapur village of Kaanth area on Saturday night. Most of the farmers whose crops were damaged belonged to weaker section. Executive engineer Rishi Agarwal has assured that if the fire was triggered due to short circuit in high-tension line then compensation will be given to the farmers under a government policy. According to the farmers, they have suffered a loss of about Rs 342,000 in the fire. This was the eighth incident where fire has destroyed standing crops in Shahjahanpur district in April. Yadunath Singh, in-charge of fire station of the district said, “All our officials are alert to ensure that the help is sent as soon as possible.”
