Fire at Kanchanaburi resort

Firemen douse the embers of one of the houses destroyed at a private resort in Kanchanaburi on Moday morning.
A fire destroyed three houses and badly damaged two others at a private resort in Tha Muang district on Monday morning, police said.
Pol Capt Narong Khamsunthorn, the duty officer at Tha Muang police station, said 10 fire engines of tambon Thalor and tambon Pak Phraek municipalities rushed to the resort on Saeng Chuto road between kilometre markers 54-55 in tambon Thalor on being told of the blaze shortly befoe 6am.
The fire was brought under control in about one hour, but not before three of the five luxury resort houses were destroyed. The other two houses were also damaged.
Sirithorn Lorwongngam, 44, a neighbour, said that the houses belong to Sunan Klinpreecha, the wife of a military officer in Bangkok, who occasionally came for long weekends with friends and relatives.
Mrs Sunan had asked her to look after the houses.
The fire broke out this morning while as she was about to entere a house to clean it up for Mrs Sunan’s guests during the Songkran holiday, said Mrs Sirithorn. She had immediately informed the resort owner of the fire.
An electrical short circuit was initially believed to be the cause. Damage was estimated two million baht.. Police were investigating.
