15 Residential Huts Of Religious School Gutted By Fire

BALING, April 26 (Bernama) — Fifteen student residential huts at Madrasah Nurul Islah in Kampung Parit Panjang here were destroyed by fire Thursday night.
A 16-year-old student was injured by falling wood while salvaging religious books along with other students in the 8.15pm incident, said its administrator, Mohd Fadhil Abd Hamid.
He said all 90 students were reading the Yassin at the madrasah’s surau when the fire occurred.
“It was spotted by a student who had to leave the congregation to take another ablution. He then saw a few student residential huts ablaze,” said Mohd Fadhil.
He said the students managed to save several other huts from being razed and fought the fire before the arrival of 14 fire-fighters from Baling and Sik.
A student, Mohd Shahmil Mohd Ridzuan, 17, said although they lost many religious books, clothing and personal documents, they were thankful that there were no casualties.
Madrasah Nurul Islah, which was set up in 1968 and accepted students from all over the country, has appealed for donations to help it rebuild the student residential huts.
The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained by the Baling Fire and Rescue Station, said its spokesman.
