Updated: 2016-04-12-01:58
Fire devastated wheat crop of around 25acres of land near River Aami on Monday. Fire tenders reached late and agitated farmers blocked the road at Davarpar in Bansgaon and vented their anger at buses.
Fire broke out due to sparks in a machine belonging to farmer Dhamendra Sahni in Bansgaon. Villagers alleged that they informed the fire station but no one came. They tried to douse the blaze with buckets of water but it spread in nearby areas and wheat crop in 25 acre of land was reduced to ashes.
Upset farmers then blocked the road at Davarpar in Khajini till mayor Satya Pandey and SDM (Sadar) Pankaj Verma reached the spot and appeased the farmers. “I told them that destroying public property won’t help. They should, instead, make a list of all those who lost their crops and they would be compensated in a fortnight,” mayor Satya Pandey said.
Meanwhile, Gorakhpur fire service officer Satyendra Pandey said, “Once a fire tender is at work, it will return only after completing work and it takes time. ” Bansgaon SDM Bansgaon Motilal Singh said, “As per my information, most of the farmers of the area had cut their crop and only remains burnt. However, it needs to be probed and victims will be compensated.”
