Updated: 2016-04-14-01:18

A major fire broke out in a paper factory in Sector 11 where 15 employees were trapped inside on Wednesday afternoon. Though no casualties were reported, goods worth lakhs of rupees had been destroyed. It took nearly three hours to douse the fire.

According to fire department officials, the fire broke out at Heritage paper mill, which is situated in G block in Sector 11. The fire department was informed about it around 3 pm, following which three fire tenders were rushed to the scene.

“More staff was deployed, when we got to know that 15 employees were trapped inside the factory. Our first priority was to safely rescue all the people from inside the factory. Our team dedicatedly executed the operation and we safely rescued the staff within minutes,” said a senior fire official.

According to chief fire officer S K Singh, the fire was doused in within three hours.

“A total of 18 fire tenders were sent to the scene. Material worth lakhs of rupees were gutted but no casualty reported. We managed to put out the fire before the flames spread to nearby factories,” he said.

Officials said the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained but prima facie a short circuit appears to be the cause.
