Updated: 2016-04-15-23:30
A fire breaking out is an urgent matter in any case, but the mention of a high-profile, bureaucrat-inhabited location sent the city’s fire brigade into a frenzy early on Friday.
A fire call from the city police control room about a fire breaking out at Snehnagar, an area comprising residential quarters of scores of senior government employees, High Court and lower court judges, caused a flurry in the fire department, who rushed to the scene to find that a huge pile of garbage lying opposite to Snehanagar had caught fire.
The fire control room received a call from the police control room at 3 am informing about the fire in the area. Taking a serious note of the information, fire tenders from the nearby Padampura-based fire brigade station were rushed to the spot.
Fire brigade authorities said that though every call is treated with urgency, but the report of a fire in the area resided by senior officials from the judiciary as well as other departments including the police department, had set alarm bells ringing at the fire brigade station.
Lead fireman CL Bhandare said, “Within minutes of receiving the call, we reached the spot only to find that a pile of garbage has caught fire. My first reaction was that the fire at Snehnagar is serious. So, the message was even passed on to the higher ups about the fire call.”
Authorities maintained that the police control room after passing on the information about the incident to the fire control room, also passed on the message to the police teams from the area police station and they too rushed to the spot. The fire tenders took a few minutes to douse the flames.
Sources said that the though the incident has been taken on record but no case has been registered in this regard.
