108 ambulance catches fire

A government ambulance, belonging to 108 helpline service, burst into flames near Ringabodi village on Amravati road on Friday evening. No one was injured in the incident which led to a massive traffic jam there. Fortunately, there was no patient in the vehicle.
Police said that the ambulance was heading towards Amravati from Nagpur when the incident took place at around 8.40pm. A doctor and the driver were inside the ambulance and both of them escaped the burning vehicle without any injuries as within some time, an oxygen cylinder inside the ambulance exploded.
Fortunately, the doctor and the driver informed the police about the oxygen cylinder within the ambulance because of which Kondhali police blocked the vehicular flow on the busy road. It proved to be a prudent step as when the cylinder exploded with a massive blast, the flames spread around, even engulfing the shrubs and trees near the road.
Police said that the reason behind the ambulance catching fire was yet to be known. Fire tenders from city, Katol and some private ones belonging to explosives factories helped douse the fire.
