Two die in fire after LPG leak at Gotri
Updated: 2016-04-17-06:31

Two people were killed after a leak in gas cylinder led to fire in a residence near Rameshwar society in Gotri on Saturday evening. The deceased have been identified as Dharmendra Rao (40) and Suresh Naik (33).

Rao and his family were performing a yagna in the parking of his residence at Sadguru Tower when the fire broke out. According to fire brigade, Rao was in the kitchen of his residence on the second floor with Naik. They were preparing food for the relatives and guests.

“We believe that they did not sense the gas leak from the cylinder. They lighted the stove following which the fire broke out. Both of them were unable to get out of the kitchen and got engulfed in flames,” said firefighter Nathu Dangi.

“I came out after I heard people shouting. Rao and Naik were cooking with the doors closed making it difficult for them to open the doors or call for help. Some of our neighbours tried to help but all efforts were in vain,” said Smruti Vasrani who stays on the first floor of the apartment.

Rao is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son. Naik is a resident of Waghodia and had come to Rao’s residence to attend the yagna. TNN
