Two jump to safety as fire engulfs factory
Updated: 2016-04-20-02:47
A major fire broke out at a three-storey cardboard factory in Dashmesh Nagar around 12.30am on Tuesday, gutting goods worth lakhs of rupees. Labourers working on its first and second floors jumped to safety as the flames spread. However, no one was injured in the incident.
The factory owner, Amit Singla, said, “A short-circuit triggered the blaze at the first floor around mid-night. Two of the workers on night shift saved their lives by jumping from the first floor. And those staying in the quarters on the third floor jumped into the neighbourhood houses. The second floor which had finishing goods and machinery suffered the maximum damage.”
As flames engulfed the building, neighbours called up Singla’s relatives, who informed him as well as the fire department. Fire safety officer Rajinder Sharma said, “Ten fire tenders were pressed into service which took around nine hours to douse the flames. It was a tough task as the unit was full of paper and cardboard.”
