Fire breaks out in textile shop
Updated: 2016-04-21-07:13

Huge quantity of synthetic saris, furniture and packaging materials was gutted when a big fire broke out at a shop in Anmol Textile Market on the Ring Road on Tuesday.

Fire brigade officials said that it took around two hours to douse the blaze that was sparked off due to electrical short circuit. The wiring, a computer and an air-conditioner were also destroyed in the fire. The fire started in Krishna Trade Pvt Ltd located on the first floor of four-storey building at Kamela Darwaja at around 11.51am. It started in the attic where the textile material was stored.

“The loft was so heavily stuffed with material that there was absolutely no space to go inside and douse the fire. We even sprayed water from outside by climbing on the high-rise ladders to control the fire,” said S K Acharya, chief fire officer, who also rushed to the spot.

Shop owners Ashwin Agarwal and Jagdish Agarwal had made provisions for firefighting equipment. However, there was no space to go inside and use the equipment.
