2 die as covered van catches fire in Narayanganj

Two people were burnt to dead when fire broke out inside a covered van carrying the victims on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj on Wednesday.
Police suspected that the victims, aged around 30 years, are the driver and helper of the van, reported our Narayanganj correspondent quoting Sohel Imtiaz, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police Station.
Vehicular movements on one lane of the highway remained suspended for around half-an-hour following the accident that took place in Kewdhala area in the morning, the OC said.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The fire erupted when the Dhaka-bound van hit a stationary track, the OC added.
The driver of the truck fled the scene, he said.
