Four tankers to douse Gzb waste dump fire
Updated: 2016-04-23-13:46

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Friday dispatched four water tankers to douse a blaze which has been raging for more than 15 days in an open ground along CISF road in Indirapuram.

“We received the information from Indirapuram police about the fire raging in an open ground along CISF road. We have dispatched water tankers to douse the fire,” said GDA executive engineer Kaptan Singh. However, he refused to comment on the delay in sending the tankers.

“We had informed GDA of the fire after we received a complaint from one Alok Kumar on April 19, a resident of Arihant Harmony,” said Gorakhnath Yadav, SHO Indirapuram.

TOI had reported about the fire raging in the vacant plot on April 13 followed by another report a week later. A resident had then filed a police complaint that finally goaded GDA into action. The complainant, meanwhile, said, “It is good that GDA has finally acted but the delay highlights the apathetic attitude of the civic agencies on issues even as grave as this. GDA must ensure that vacant plots are not being used to dump waste,” said Kumar.

“We will soon barricade the vacant plot. Work on this has already been started,” said Kaptan Singh.
