More than 40 houses were gutted in a major fire that broke out at Belada village under Choudwar police limits on Saturday. Police said no loss of life was reported in the mishap.
According to villagers, fire sparked in one of the thatched houses and in no time the flames engulfed the entire locality.”As the thatched houses were located close to each other, the flames spread really fast. However, things are completely under control now,”said inspector in charge of Choudwar police station, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra.
“On hearing a loud sound, we rushed out of our houses only to found that one of the thatched houses was on fire. Before we could do something to douse the flames, we saw that the fire was spreading wildly. To save lives, villagers vacated the entire locality in no time.,”said a villager Ramesh Samal. Fortunately, not a single person was injured in the mishap. Three fire tenders were engaged to douse the flames. Even district officials also rushed to the spot to provide relief to the victim families.
