Haze In Pekan Caused By Bush Fires
Updated: 2016-04-25 12:00
KUANTAN, April 25 (Bernama) — The haze in most areas in Pekan near here is caused by bush fires resulting from the El-Nino phenomenon, said Pahang Department of Environment (DOE) Director, Rosli Zul.
He said the condition began last week with the slow winds resulting in very little smoke movement, causing it to be concentrated in several areas in the district.
“Checks by DOE officers found there were fires in the Langgar, Pulau Manis, Pulau Rusa, Ganchong and Bebar areas,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Rosli added that the situation was expected to improve in coming days, subject to (the absence of) open burning in these areas.
“The public can hopefully reduce activities which will contribute to open burning or burning rubbish in their house compounds,” he said.
