Fire Destroys Old Files At Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquaters
Updated: 2016-04-26 12:00
KUALA TERENGGANU, April 26 (Bernama) — A fire destroyed a room containing documents and old files at the district police headquarters here last night, and forced the evacuation of 58 people held at the lockup.
Police personnel on duty were alert to the fire, which occurred at 10.15pm, by smoke in the air, said Kuala Terengganu Police chief ACP Idris Abd Rafar.
The room, on the ground floor of the double-storey building, was usually used by personnel from the Crime Prevention Branch and is located 30 metres from the lockup.
Idris said the 58 detainees, three of them women, were moved to the Gong Badak Police Station as electricity supply to the headquarters was cut off by the fire.
“The fire was brought under control quickly and prevented from spreading to a weapons store nearby,” he told reporters at the scene.
Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Izwan Hashim said the cause of the fire and damage had yet to be ascertained.
