Short circuit causes fire at Sanpada tower

A fire broke out after noon on Sunday, reportedly due to a short circuit in the meter room of a Sanpada residential tower. No one was injured and the blaze was extinguished soon. But electrical cable wiring and meters of 56 flats were charred.
The fire started at 12.45pm in Gurusamruddhi Heights at sector 14, along the Palm Beach Road. The blaze engulfed the meter room and charred the electrical cable wiring and meters of 56 flats in the tower.
Vashi fire officer Prabhakar Gade , said, “The main power supply was switched off by the MSEDCL technicians, which prevented the fire from spreading. The were summoned immediately by the residents after they saw thick smoke emanating from the meter room.”
The Vashi fire brigade received the call at 12.45 pm and the fire tender reached the building within five minutes. The fire fighters doused the fire within 10 minutes.
By then, all building residents had rushed downstairs and were out in the open space.
